Made by Malyia

“Made by Malyia is more than a jewelry company—it’s a lifestyle! A brand that brings the consumer on my personal journey of entrepreneurship, faith and inspiration behind creating this brand."...

This is an excerpt from my interview with The Stylish Standout. A site created to empower women who weren't made to fit in, after the founder Michael Jones,  realized the same about himself and his circle of friends.

ESSENCE STREET STYLE BLOCK PARTY x MADE BY MALYIA RECAP

Made by Malyia

This year has been filled with magical moments and opportunities I couldn't have dreamed of two years ago. ESSENCE magazines 2nd annual Street Style Block Party was another once in a lifetime experience.

While finishing my final planning for Afropunk I applied to be a vendor fully aware that the show was only two short weeks away. I planned for Afropunk for 5 months but I was determined to be apart of this amazing event and made a deal with the universe that if my application was approved it was a sign it was meant to be. My application was approved and I was repacking to do my third show for the year.

The event was amazing and I was able to connect with so many jewels and gems.

Thank you to all my family, friends, jewels and gems that showed support at the event.

"ESSENCE, a media company dedicated to celebrating African American women, hosted its 2nd annual Essence Street Style Block Party during New York Fashion Week. Fashion, food, and fun sums up the successful event. Event partners Chevrolet, SheaMoisture, and The Home Depot complimented guests with free items and prizes. Attendees especially enjoyed SheaMoisture's beauty lounge which provided mini massages, skincare consultation, and hair styling."-Adebukola Ajao

Vogue.com "Best Street Style" x Afropunk Feature

Every girls dream is to be in Vogue Magazine. The recognition from this iconic staple in the industry can propel your career. I never in a million years imagined I would be featured for "The Best Street Style" on Vogue.com.

As I began setting up my table for Afropunk with my nerves at all time high I hear my friend Michelle's voice faintly say "Vogue is here and they want to take a photo of you". The senior fashion writer for Vogue.com Marjon Carlos and Ruben Ramos were at my table and wanted to take a photo of me!  I quickly introduced myself and headed over for the Polaroid shoot.

I was shocked to discover not only was my photo selected for Vogue.com but they posted my image on Vogue Magazines official Instagram. The picture has since received over 50,000 likes and glowing comments.

My outfit paid tribute to African tribal attire, featured mixed Ankara prints and custom designed converse I embellished with gold studs. I was draped in my jewelry and a Ankara wax print fabric my sister designed into a bandeau. I'm wearing the Shavon midi skirt by Reuben Reuel of Demestiks New York. He has designed for Beyonce! Visit Demestiks New York HERE. My PR Manager/Digital strategist Sherod Lewis executed this designer collaboration and I couldn't be happier.

Dreams do come true no matter how far away they may seem! Dream big jewels and gems!

Thank you to the entire Vogue.com team and photographer Benjamin Rasmussen.

I wanted to share behind the scenes photos of this fairy tale once in a lifetime moment. See the full Vogue.com story here

AFROPUNK X MADE BY MALYIA RECAP

Made by Malyia

My first festival as jewelry designer was a huge success.

I spent 5 months preparing and designing jewelry for my first festival debut. I was beyond nervous and questioned if I bit off more than I could chew. The week before the festival the forecast was severe thunderstorms for both days. The day before the festival I spend the day setting up my booth with my bestfriend Michelle. She brought my Afropunk Pinterest inspiration board to life. I managed to get stung by a bee which I would later find was a good luck charm but at the time I thought I was being sabotaged lol.

Then the big day arrived and my heart was in my throat. Did I forget anything? Are you ready? Maybe you should have waited one more year. These were all the thoughts running through my head but after praying I was sure I was suppose to be here.

Showtime came and all the fear I felt before was gone and the weekend went better than I could have planned. I met so many amazing jewels and gems that expressed interest in the collection. They bought their favorite pieces and took selfies rocking their new jewelry.

My weekend was fun filled and I was able to catch moments of Grace Jones and Lenny Kravitz performances.  I hope to be a vendor at Afropunk 2016 and will begin preparing this weekend lol.

What better way to celebrate wedding season then a Made by Malyia jewelry feature for a bridal campaign. I had the opportunity to collaborate with Sassy A La Mode, an amazing wedding planning company based in Central Florida and London.

The co-founder and fellow #Girlboss, a dear friend of mine Akili Phillips requested custom Made by Malyia pieces for her bohemian inspired bridal campaign shoot.

I designed an exclusive two layered garter fit for a bohemian bride and hand chain to compliment the special occasion.

Check out a sneak peak of the shoot. More pictures coming soon !!!!

#ShesFearless Feature-Woman VS Freedom

Made by Malyia

This week has been short of magical! Celebrating the 2 year anniversary of my company, and the announcement of my collaboration with Lionsgate's "The Divergent Series:Insurgent". This week I was also featured by the amazing Krystal Clayton of Woman Vs Freedom. Please see below excerpt from the interview and read the full feature HERE

Here's an excerpt from the feature

How do you face your fears?

I look my fear in the face and call it what is it. If I’m afraid to fail, I question who’s standards am I using to measure that failure. If something scares me I usually do that task first because the more I think about it the more I will talk myself out of it.

Name one fear and/or setback that you’ve overcome.

One of my biggest fears was not being accepted into the fashion industry and being considered a failure. How do you all your life say that you are meant to do something but you aren’t validated by the industry you seek approval from. The way I overcame this was by staying true to who I am and not trying to conform. After I stopped seeking that stamp of approval that’s when it all changed for me. My brand was authentic and spoke to who I am.

Made by Malyia x The Divergent Series:Insurgent-Announcement

Made by Malyia

Made by Malyia Jewelry is now an official licensee for "The Divergent Series: Insurgent" film. In partnership with Etsy and Lionsgate Entertainment, I have been selected to create a design inspired by the mega blockbuster hit. This partnership comes just in time for the home entertainment release of "Insurgent" later this month. Insurgent, is the sequel to adventure and Sci-fi film "Divergent." With over 60 million copies sold, #1 world wide opening and sales coming in at $516 million, I couldn't have asked for a better partner.

Of all the praying, planning and preparing I could have done, never in a million years did I see this one coming into fruition. When you walk by faith and allow God to order your steps, life is limitless! I will continue to remain humble for he is not done with me nor my brand, and there is much more to come from this collaboration.

MBM jewelry turns 2- Happy Anniversary

Made by Malyia

This is a major milestone and truly the beginning of what I plan on making an Empire. What started out as a creative outlet designing jewelry I love has grown into a business.

In the past two years I designed a new collection, met my jewels at my first pop up shop at Raw Artists, and collaborated with my first designer Lois London.

I want to thank all my jewels, friends and family that have helped MBM jewelry celebrate it's 2nd birthday. A special thank you to Sherod Lewis my PR manager and digital strategist.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you!

Made by Malyia x Lois London Collab

Made by Malyia

I had the amazing opportunity to collaborate with Lois London in January at the Raw Artists  runway show. Made by Malyia body chains worked perfectly with the stunning dresses for the runway show so the designer requested MBM jewelry for her Spring/Summer campaign shoot.
