Red, White + TRUE Campaign! What is TRUE to you?

Made by Malyia

The last week has been a difficult one for me, my team and the world due to the recent deaths of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and the 5 police officers in Dallas,Texas. I wasn’t going to address this publicly but then I realized one of the reasons I became an entrepreneur was the freedom it provides.

My goal as a black woman, creative and entrepreneur is to provide young people with representation and encouragement to chase their dreams. I volunteer frequently with young girls affected by homelessness and poverty. We discuss social issues that directly affect them and I know the importance of community in times of uncertainty and hurt. As a creative I use my platform to exemplify the change and representation often lacking in the fashion industry, so I couldn’t simply remain silent. I decided to pause all social media post and not release this blog to give myself time to reflect and figure out how I to best shine a positive light in all the darkness. This campaign is my attempt to create community and self reflection.

I created the Red, White + True campaign which was originally to be released during the week of Fourth of July to highlight 4 other creative influencers including bloggers, stylist and actors that are breaking boundaries.

The project asks them to share what they hold true. What is TRUE to you? Don’t miss the opportunity to share and engage with those that mean the world to you. See below for the full photo campaign and the influencers thoughts on what they hold true. We want to hear from you share your thoughts with us in the comments. Sending love and light...

CEO, Founder of Made by Malyia and Model | Malyia McNaughton

"What I hold true is love! Love of self, family, and others. Owner of blog MarshBar’s Closet and Staff Writer for Fashion Bomb Daily| Marsha Badger

“For me its God! He is the most constant, consistent entity in my life.”

“FREEDOM. Freedom of speech. Freedom of expression. Freedom of choosing to be who I want to be despite what America makes young men of color out to be. The clothes I wear, the way I rock my hair…the music that inspires my creative flow. That is what’s true to me.”

Actor, Model, and Host| Ryan “Muufasa” Cross

"Holds moments like this to be TRUE"

Stylist| Nyjerah Nicole

Jumping and reaching new heights-My 4 month update

Made by Malyia

The Jump!!....

It's been a while....April marks 4 months since I  quit my 9-to-5 to become an entrepreneur and full time girl boss of Made by Malyia. A major factor for leaving my 9-to-5 was to have the ability to devote everything to bringing you the best product and service. I had no idea how demanding my schedule would become once word got out I had "free time".

If you've been keeping up with the brand on social media you know I consider the brands evolution a journey. My goal is to inspire others with my journey by bringing you along for the ride. I started designing jewelry as an outlet and to create jewelry I didn't see on the market.

Taking the leap was the scariest yet most liberating thing I've ever done!!! Read my blog feature HERE on The Stylish Standout for more details on what lead me to finally take the jump. In order to be provide full transparency I will say I have dealt with a new fear I hadn't encountered before. Everything requires sacrifice so this path is not for the faint of heart.

New opportunities

4 months later and it is still the best decision I've ever made. I have complete freedom to create the schedule I want and many days my schedule is fully booked. This flexibility has also brought new opportunities. I signed with Bicoastal Model Management  two months ago thanks in large part to my feature on Vogue.com "The Best Street Style at Afropunk". I have also released a New Collection, had several blog/press features,  and I am currently working on an image & fashion consulting firm with my sister launching this summer. I have also been sharing my journey as a speaker at several non-profits including women shelters.

The universe has a way of bringing all the pieces together sometimes it is waiting on us to jump. You may discover all you've ever wanted was waiting for you at the bottom. Thank you for your continuous support of the brand! None of this would be possible without all my amazing jewels and gems. Check out the New Spring 2016 campaign and stay tuned for much more coming soon! Stay connected and follow the journey @madebymalyia-Instagram, Twitter,Snapchat (I'm a snapqueen), Pinterest, Tumblr,Facebook.

ESSENCE STREET STYLE BLOCK PARTY x MADE BY MALYIA RECAP

Made by Malyia

This year has been filled with magical moments and opportunities I couldn't have dreamed of two years ago. ESSENCE magazines 2nd annual Street Style Block Party was another once in a lifetime experience.

While finishing my final planning for Afropunk I applied to be a vendor fully aware that the show was only two short weeks away. I planned for Afropunk for 5 months but I was determined to be apart of this amazing event and made a deal with the universe that if my application was approved it was a sign it was meant to be. My application was approved and I was repacking to do my third show for the year.

The event was amazing and I was able to connect with so many jewels and gems.

Thank you to all my family, friends, jewels and gems that showed support at the event.

Check out an excerpt from the Huffington Post article below (view full story Here)

Essence Live with block party DJs Olivia Dope and Tiff McFierce

"ESSENCE, a media company dedicated to celebrating African American women, hosted its 2nd annual Essence Street Style Block Party during New York Fashion Week. Fashion, food, and fun sums up the successful event. Event partners Chevrolet, SheaMoisture, and The Home Depot complimented guests with free items and prizes. Attendees especially enjoyed SheaMoisture's beauty lounge which provided mini massages, skincare consultation, and hair styling."-Adebukola Ajao

Vogue.com "Best Street Style" x Afropunk Feature

Made by Malyia

Every girls dream is to be in Vogue Magazine. The recognition from this iconic staple in the industry can propel your career. I never in a million years imagined I would be featured for "The Best Street Style" on Vogue.com.

As I began setting up my table for Afropunk with my nerves at all time high I hear my friend Michelle's voice faintly say "Vogue is here and they want to take a photo of you". The senior fashion writer for Vogue.com Marjon Carlos and Ruben Ramos were at my table and wanted to take a photo of me!  I quickly introduced myself and headed over for the Polaroid shoot.

I was shocked to discover not only was my photo selected for Vogue.com but they posted my image on Vogue Magazines official Instagram. The picture has since received over 50,000 likes and glowing comments.

My outfit paid tribute to African tribal attire, featured mixed Ankara prints and custom designed converse I embellished with gold studs. I was draped in my jewelry and a Ankara wax print fabric my sister designed into a bandeau. I'm wearing the Shavon midi skirt by Reuben Reuel of Demestiks New York. He has designed for Beyonce! Visit Demestiks New York HERE. My PR Manager/Digital strategist Sherod Lewis executed this designer collaboration and I couldn't be happier.

Dreams do come true no matter how far away they may seem! Dream big jewels and gems!

Thank you to the entire Vogue.com team and photographer Benjamin Rasmussen.

I wanted to share behind the scenes photos of this fairy tale once in a lifetime moment. See the full Vogue.com story here
