Guess who was selected for the 2015 AFROPUNK festival out of hundreds of applicants? Yes, Made by Malyia Jewelry! AFROPUNK was penned by the New York Times as "The most influential multicultural festival in the US." After attending the event last year, I went back and forth with my sister about one day being a vendor at such a festival. I remember visualizing my pieces on the thousands of consumers who frequented the festival and the feeling of satisfaction it brought me. Never realizing my words would become a reality, I had finally spoke this dream into existence.
New York is a creative mecca with artistic and talented people everywhere, so to be recognized by an organization I have admired for some time now, is definitely a major milestone in not only my career but in my brand's development. I am glad I stayed true to my aesthetic and made jewelry I wanted to wear, so that others could be inspired to live the life of an MBM jewel.
This is only the beginning and I am already in phase 2 of planning and brainstorming to ensure the consumers and my future MBM jewels will receive my very best this year! This will be one for the books, and another one for the road as many of mine and your favorites will be headlining this years festival. It was once rumored but now it is confirmed that the superstar lineup is made up of none other than Lenny Kravitz, Lauryn Hill, Grace Jones, Kelis and Lion babe! Now my next step is getting one of these renown artists to outfit one of my pieces, you see where I am going with this jewels? Wishful thinking...but a girl can only dream, and by dreaming, I somehow ended up here!
